I brewed this during the summer as per the instructions and was rewarded with a fine ale. No sugar is added at primary fermentation as they are already in the wort.
It took almost 2 weeks to ferment, benefitting from a gentle rousing of the yeast every now and then. It then went into the keg with 80 grams of sugar and took 5-6 weeks before it was clear and tasted right.
It is exactly what it claims to be, a session ale. The ABV is not that high and the taste is not strong on bitterness nor is it very powerful. It would be best to describe the taste as subtle. That's why you can drink 5 or 6 pints or more of this ale. However, if I was only after a glass of beer to accompany a meal this is not one that I would be selecting.
It made its debut at a family summer barbeque and the 40 pints soon disappeared to overwhelming approval. It was particulalrly liked by the women in the family.
I will brew this again, probably for another summer family gathering.
My only criticism is that the fermentation does 'stick' and needs time and a gentle rousing of the yeast to get it anywhere near 1.012FG. That's why I have only given it 4 stars.
